Day 1, October 6

Soledad S. Reyes is Professor Emeritus at the Ateneo de Manila University. Dr. Reyes has done research on various aspects of literature and popular culture since the early 1970s.  Her publications include Ang Nobelang Tagalog, 1905-1975: Tradisyon at Modernismo (1982), Reading Popular Culture (1990), The Romance Mode in Philippine Popular Literature and Other Essays (1991), Ang Pagbasa ng Panitikan at Kulturang Popular (1997), Aliw (2000), Narratives of Note (2012), among others. Her current project is the translation of a number of novels and short stories from Filipino into English.

Day 2, October 7

Capino_Pop ArtJose B. Capino is Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. An alumnus of the Ateneo de Manila University Department of Communication (BA Communication ’94) and Northwestern University (PhD in Radio/Film/TV ’02), Dr. Capino specializes in Documentary Cinema, Experimental Film and Postcolonial Studies. A multi-awarded scholar, Dr. Capino’s publications include Dream Factories of the Former Colony: American Fantasies, Philippine Cinema (2010), Winner of the 2012 Book Award for a Monograph in Cultural Studies awarded by the Association for Asian American Studies. He is currently a Fulbright senior research fellow and is working on books about documentary cinema in colonial and postcolonial Philippines and Lino Brocka, martial law and melodrama.
